Best Running Shoes For Women 2016

Are you looking to purchase a new pair of shoes for your next race but struggling to identify the best shoe for you? With such a wide range of running shoes for women available on the market it can be difficult to determine which is the best shoe for you and your particular foot strike. As such, the team at RunningShoo.com have compiled a short list of some of our favorite running shoes for Women 2016.  These shoes are tried and tested by women runners and will help to give you the necessary comfort and support you need on your training runs. What is more, we’ve chosen shoes for a wide range of runners, so no matter if you’re a neutral runner or someone who overpronates, we have a recommendation for you.

Also, for those how are new to running or those who are still unsure what type of running shoes for women you require we have a simple test to help you identify your foot strike. This is referred to as ‘the wet foot test’.  The test is used to identify your arch type. This will provide you with a good indication as to your foot strike. This is important, as it will help you identify the correct type of running shoe for you’re your foot. For a more accurate assessment, the RunningShoo.com team recommends visiting a podiatrist having a gait analysis to quickly and accurately determine your foot strike.

Put simply, there are three types of arch height.  Firstly, there are individuals who have a low arch/flat foot. People with this arch type typically overpronate. It is important for overpronators to purchase appropriate shoes as this can cause, if let untreated, cause a range of injury problems for runners. We would normally recommend purchasing a stability shoe that will provide a number of measures to reduce the amount of overpronation.  This will help to reduce the negative effects of overpronation and avoid injury.

The second type of arch height is high arches. Lady Runners who have high arches tend to underpronate.  Lastly, if you have a normal arch type you will typically have a normal pronation pattern and will require neutral running shoes.

The Wet Foot Test

As we mentioned previously, the wet foot test is a very simple and quick way to determine what type of arch you have. There are three stages to the test and these are listed below –

  • Fill basin with water and then place a piece of paper next to it.
  • Place your foot into the basin and then step out onto the dry paper.
  • After 5 seconds, step off the paper and look at the footprint that has been left behind.

If your footprint shows a flat foot with hardly any arch then you have low arches or what is referred to as flat feet. In contrast, if there is a very big curve between the ball of your foot and the heel then you have high arches. If your foot is somewhere between the two descriptions then have a normal arch and what is referred to as a neutral gait. Runners with a neutral gait will show a slight curve between the ball of your foot and the arch.
